My first blog entry for La: inspiration time!

Wednesday, May 27th, 2009

Hi everyone,

My first post for La’s blog, so I better introduce myself! My name is Monique, although you might know me as Jomi. I am on La’s team since January and it’s been a boost for my creativity.

I went through a lot of personal changes last year and have been really struggling with finding ‘me’ again. In my personal life, but also with scrapping and everything that’s involved with it. I haven’t been around the boards for a long time and been wondering what I was looking for.

Well La’s team has been like a home coming :) So many wonderful girls around there and they are all so talented. Lauren’s style was pretty new for me to scrap with. She has a playfull way of designing, with so many directions to take her designs. Some kits are very girly which is a challenge for me since I have a  household with only men; some kits have just the perfect touch of grunge in them for my boy pages.

Looking through Lauren’s inspiration gallery at SSD and here at Scrapfasticdesigns I was blown away by the variety of layouts. So many different styles, so many different uses of her kits I was really impressed!

For me, if I am in need of inspiration with a certain kit it helps me to browse through inspiration galleries from the designer to see what other people did with the kit. It helps me to find a starting point for my layout. By looking at the specific designer I think it’s easier to find inspiration then just browsing main galleries. You don’t have the stash people used on their layouts, and this way you have at least the goodies from the kit to work with.

Here are a few layouts that caught my eye while I was browsing La’s inspiration gallery at SweetShoppeDesigns

The first one is by MyEbella called LOVE

She used Lauren’s Springtime in Paris kit for this sweet layout on her daughter. The way she used the elements to make them work with her ( beautiful) photo really appealed to me.

Here’s another one made by aly321 called Stinky Cow:

Such a sweet way to use the 2 scoop kit Baa, Moo, Cluck by Lauren Grier & Melissa Bennett . The way she used the trees and her layering around the photo’s are really nice.

Here’s one by Bellbird425 called Hold Me  using My tea has gone cold kit ( one of my favs ;))

I think this is one of my favorite layouts in a long time. A breath taking photo and the way she used so many elements from the kit has been a real inspiration for me to try to use more elements on a layout.

So if you ever need inspiration make sure to check out the designer’s gallery to give you a creative boost or to step out of your comfort zone and try something new. I find this very helpful when working on CT layouts.

Make sure to leave these girls a bit of praise and to check out Lauren’s Team Gallery!

Family? Why, yes, I do have one! DH, Alan for almost 4 years & 1 puppy, Bryant, who will be one in just a few short weeks! Nope, no kids yet!

Where do you live? In my house, duh! Georgia, somewhere between Macon & Atlanta!

But have lived in Dayton, OH, Lowell, IN, Ocala, FL, Panama City, FL, Hinesville, GA, Gumbranch, GA, Albany, GA, McDonough, GA, Macon, GA, Lancaster, CA, and where i currently am! lol So, yes, all over! But, GA is home & where I’ve spent most of my life!

How old are you? I am 23! Yes, really! lol I’ll be 24 in June.

When did you start digi? On my 21st birthday, June 13, 2006.

What kind of Equiment do you use, camera, programs, tablet, etc… Cameras: Nikon D40X ♥, Pentax waterproof point & shoot. Photoshop Elements 4! And, I have a wacom graphire tablet that I use about 50% of the time. lol And, I am a PC! & I’m dying to get Lightroom!!

How long have you been with Lauren? Oh gosh! I honestly don’t know. It’s been a long time…maybe what, La, almost 2 years? I lost track a long time ago! lol

Favorite Lauren kit? NO! I will NOT answer this question! I CANNOT choose & you can’t make me!! LOL
Okay, if I *HAVE* to choose…lol…I think I’d go with Absolute Cherry Crush

Favorite layout using Lauren’s goodies?

Favorite color? GREEEEEN!

What are you currently doing? Eating dinner & filling out this “interview”!

Look out the window: What do you see? Hmmm…be right back…okay, Bryant (the puppy) sleeping on the back porch, the back porch (lol), grass, fence, dog house, trees…exciting I know. But, behind those trees is a lake! & holy crap! Extreme wind!!!

What was the last piece of candy you ate? Sour Patch Kids
Where was the last place you fell asleep? In my bed, in my hubby’s arms! ♥

New Scrap Challenge and Chance to win a $15 GC!

Monday, May 11th, 2009

Hi Hi peeps! La here bringing you are brandy new challenge for this week! We all scrap for different reasons, to preserve memories, as an artistic outlet… whatever it may be. For me, especially over the past year, scrapping has become quite therapeutic for me. I will admit, I use to really struggle with scrapping (I know I know… LOL ) but when I started really embracing my journaling, I realized I could get a lot out.. and document the journey we’re on (though it’s felt like a really crazy roller coaster mostly). Of course, not all my pages are these open my brain and let it all ooze out pages.. but a good portion of them have been ^_^ . Anyway…. Focusing on the therapeutic side of scrapbooking.. let’s get to what my challenge is about :]

I’m a huge planner, schedules, lists, trying to massively organize every moment of my life.. but we all know not everything goes as planned. So I challenge you to scrap one of those moments- those moments that didn’t quite go as planned. This doesn’t need to be a huge dramatic page (though you are more than welcome.. ) it could be about anything.. the silly moments- like baking gone wrong, or hair dye turned green- to the more serious. Whatever you feel inspired to scrap about go at it. Not every page we create has to be sunshiney bright and happy- our lives aren’t like that, so why should we only document those memories?

Now onto the nitty gritty..

1- I want to see journaling! We can’t truly capture a moment, if we don’t elaborate on it through our words. Having pictures is always great, but I want to see the feelings, the thoughts, the guts of what happened.

2-  Use any product I’ve created in the past MONTH and be entered to win a $15 GC to my store.  Not sure which products have been released in the past 30 days? Well my super awesome CT is so great about posting new products here on the bloggie so feel free to browse through the past posts here

3- If you do not use one of my recent products on your layout, you still have a chance to win a free product of choice. Dependent on the # of entries received there will be two winners for this contest (one for the $15 gc and one for a free product of choice- those who do not use recent products of mine will only qualify for the 2nd prize).

4- Have fun!! Enjoy creating… that’s really all that matters in the end now isn’t it?

5- Post entries by May 24th !

Here is the page I created for this challenge:

My page, is of course about my obsessive planning and apparent constant failure of late.
